Easy Energy Saving Tips

You don't need to spend a lot of money to start saving money on your energy consumption. Try a few of these suggestions and you'll save money.

  • Set your thermostat to a comfortably low temperature in the water and a comfortably high temperature in the summer.

  • Set the thermostat on your water heater to 120 degrees F.

  • Showers use less water than baths.

  • Don't run your dishwasher or washing machine until you have a full load.

  • Drive responsibly. Don't speed, brake or accelerate rapidly. These types of actions just waste gasoline.

  • When purchasing home appliances and products, look for the Energy Star. Products with the Energy Star label meet strict efficiency guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Energy.

  • Use compact fluorescent light bulbs in your light fixtures.

  • Instead of using your dishwasher's drying cycle, air dry your dishes.

  • Turn off your computer and monitor when you are not using them.

  • Plug your home electronic equipment like TVs, DVD players, game consoles into power strips and then turn off the power strips when you're not using the equipment (electronic equipment will still use several watts of power even in standby mode).

  • Implementing all or some of these energy savings tips will save you both energy and money.

    Cut Your Energy Costs

If you are trying to cut your energy costs, you will first need to find out which parts of your house use the most energy. Every house will have different areas that use more energy than another area. You can have an energy audit performed on your house to show you exactly where you are using the most energy and suggest the most effective ways to cut your energy costs.
